August 3, 1924—Sunday

The Majestic passed us about 6 A.M.

Took a walk with Mr. Muhlinghaus this morning. We saw a beautiful sight. It seemed as if there were a hundred gulls following the ship, which is a sure sign of land. About one thirty we saw Land’s End and then the rocky coast of Cornwall.

Had tea with Mrs. Hanson, Mr. Denton a noted pianist.

After dinner the ship was just about moving in the Channel preceded by a pilot. After dark a hundred lights seemed to spring up all over the water and little further off the light houses appeared. It was quite an interesting sight.

The dinner to-night was known as the captain’s dinner. The dining room looked like a room in a hotel on New Year’s Eve. Each person had [illegible] paper crackers and a favor at their place and the ladies also had a corsage bouquet. Every one was in very high spirits and the racket we made with horns whistles etc was deafening.

Just before we left the table the head steward handed each person a very nice memoranda book. Later in the evening we had a concert and as the saying is a good time was had by all.
